Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 (2025)
Emma Tammi
Most of the movies that I want to see over my Christmas break come out on or after Christmas, so this weekend is kind of bare. Given that, it makes sense that Morgan and I tagged along with Abby and her friends to see Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 tonight, even though I dragged it through the mud in my Ella McCay review. Equally fortunately and unfortunately, my dragging of this movie was justified.
I had figured that some of the issues I had with the first movie would’ve been resolved in the sequel, including the piss-poor writing and scares that didn’t actually scare me at all, but Emma Tammi and Scott Cawthon didn’t do any of that. In fact, the story was worse, because even though I haven’t played the Five Nights at Freddy’s games, I know the plot of the first movie was way more game-accurate than this one. There were so many plot holes in this story, from the marionette to the animatronic’s weaknesses, and with such cringy dialogue on top, this was a hard one to enjoy.
It had been two years since I had watched a Five Nights at Freddy’s movie, and I’ve watched a ton of horror in that time. This franchise still has yet to actually scare me, be it the first movie when I had no horror experience, or now, when I’m much more seasoned (and a fan of the genre) and know what a good scare looks like. There must be a hell of a lot of fan service in these movies that I’m unable to pick up on, because I can’t figure out what’s driving people to watch these.
I really don’t have much more to say about Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 than this. The movie was poorly written and acted, just like the first one, but the aspects that I liked in the first movie—Matthew Lillard and MatPat—were absent from this one. There will be a Five Nights at Freddy’s 3, since this franchise makes a lot of money, but you won’t see me there, unless all of my friends and family go see it together. I wouldn’t want to miss out on that quality time, but I’ll be sure to suggest a couple other movies for us to all watch together instead if that ends up happening.
